UMHA AOIS

Lejre, Denmark
July 12th -19th 2009

Umha Aois is an Irish group of artists, archeologists and other bronze age enthusiasts, who get together several times a year to celibrate the ancient bronze casters of the bronze age, by trying to rediscover this ancient craft and generally having a great time together. Between july 12th and 19th 2009, Umha Aois was invited by the Lejre Experimental Center in Denmark. This center has a large area with reconstructions of buildings from the stone age, iron age, Viking period and 1850s. This year the theme in Lejre is "War and conflict". With regard to this theme, we were asked to focus on weapons, and the artifacts of the Muldbjerg chieftain in particular. With only 6 days to work with, which is very very short when having to build furnaces, prepare moulds, castings etc. we managed to cast the Muldbjerg sword, as well as various other artifacts. Photos of the event can be found below.
