What is Genesis Climber Mospeada?

Genesis Climber Mospeada is one of the Japanese animes that was edited and included in Robotech (were
it was called Robotech: The New Generation). The original TV series was aired in Japan
between 10-02-83 and 03-25-84 and a total of 25 episodes were made.

The story

The story begins in 2050 when an alien race, the Invid, invade our solar system and conquer Earth. The only free humans are
the ones living in bases on Mars and the moons of Jupiter. These humans try to recapture Earth, but fail. Thirty years later, their
children, armed with there own transformable mecha, try to recapture Earth again, but still no success. Three years the Mars
Base launches the Second Earth Recapture force, but then with hundreds of ships and mecha. They are defeated for the third
time, and suffer heavy losses. Lt. Cmd Stick Bernard, commander of the 21th Armored Division, crash lands in South Africa
and his fiancee Marlene Rush is killed in the battle. To revenge her death, he begins his long trek north to destroy Reflex Point,
the Invid's main hive. (This is an abridged version of the Mospeada background story, which I found on Adam Kath's page)

The toys

AFC-01 Legioss

The AFC-01 Legioss, or better known under the Robotech fans as the Alpha Fighter, forms the basic mecha in the series. There were three different types: the AFC-01H Stick type (blue Alpha), the AFC-01I Fuke type (green Alpha) and the AFC-01Z Ley type (red Alpha). Like the Macross Valkyrie, the Legioss has three different modes: Armo Fighter (fighter), Armo Diver (gerwalk), and Armo Soldier (battloid). The Legioss toys were produced in three different scales: a 1/72 transformable version, a 1/48 diecast version, only transformable between Armo Soldier and Armo Diver, and a 1/35 transformable version. The 1/35 scale toys are by the best and belong the coolest mecha ever produced. The toys were released in three different boxes, the original Japanese box (which included missiles for the gun, which could actually fire), the English languaged "The Henshin Robo" box (pre-Robotech) and the Robotech box.

This Alpha or Legioss Robo was sold in a Henshin Robo box, as it was sold in the US and Europe before Robotech was aired. The later version came in a Robotech box.

Ride Armor

Another transforming toy from Mospeada was the Ride Armor (Cyclone in Robotech). The Ride Armor is basically
a motorcycle, which becomes an armored suit for the driver. Gakken made the following toys of the Ride Armor:

Large scale:
VR-052-F Mospeada 21 Ride Armor Stick Type (mint green)

Small scale:
VR-052-F Mospeada 21 Ride Armor Stick Type (mint green)
VR-038-L Bartley Ride Armor Fuke Type (red)
VR-041-H Blowsuperior Ride Armor Yellow Type (blue)

Invid mecha

Gakken never made any toys of the Invid mecha, but when Harmony Gold launched Robotech in the US,
Matchbox released two of the Invid mecha: the Invid Shock Trooper (purple) and the Invid Scout (maroon),
which is basically the same as the Shock Trooper, but in a different color and without the plasma cannons.

The Invid Shock Troopers were never made for the original Mospeada series. However Matchbox released these Shock Troopers when Robotech aired. It's a rather simple toy in design, but at least the Alpha's have something to fight against!:)
